EEPCo electrifies 24 towns

HARAR – The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) has reportedly electrified 24 towns in eastern Ethiopia.

EEPCo Eastern Region Department Director Daba Kelbessa told WIC Saturday that the corporation has provide electric power service for rural kebeles in Oromia, Harari and Somali states as well as Dire Dawa administration beginning this month.

The towns have become beneficiaries of electric power service following the completion of stretching of electric lines, installation of poles and transformers in each town, Daba said.

As stretching of electric line and installation of transformers are underway in other seven rural towns they will become beneficiaries of round-the-clock service soon in addition to the 24 towns, the director further stated.

The region has carried out the stretching of 71kms power line and installation of transformers in the towns, Daba said, adding that it has also provided new meters for over 9,348 new clients.

Various activities have also been underway with over 86 million birr so as to make a total of 47 towns, including the above-mentioned towns, become beneficiaries of electric power services by the coming June, it was learnt.
