Over 50mln birr projects under execution in Harrari state

Harrar, September 24, 2006 (WIC) - New and existing projects would be executed with over 50 million birr in Harrari state this fiscal year, according to the regional Finance and Economic Development Bureau.

Bureau Head, Arif Abdul-Hafiz, told WIC that the construction of the projects would be undertaken in 19 towns and 17 rural kebeles of the state.

Arif indicated that over half of the projects making up education, health, water, agriculture, urban development, capacity building and road construction projects, among others, are new ones.

The projects, which would be carried out by 12 executive offices and nine kebele administrations would benefit close to 100,000 people in the state upon their completion at the end of the budget year, he elaborated.

Some 46,749,700 birr of the total budget is earmarked by the government and 1,810,000 birr from aid, while 1,600,000 birr would be covered with loan, according to the Head.

Most of the 67 new and outstanding projects launched last budget year with an outlay of over 44 million birr have been finalized, Arif further stated.
